Curriculum Resources

Download the entire 5 sequence lesson plan here.  This PDF document contains all necessary lesson plans, student handouts, and project rubrics needed for a successful independent study project for your classroom to follow a Brain Awareness Week presentation.

My name is Colin O'Neal and I am a student at Columbia University Teachers College where I am working on my M.S. in Neuroscience and Education.  Before moving to New York City, I lived in Houston, TX where I worked as a middle and high school science teacher, and later as a curriculum developer for the Rice University STEMscopes project.  I have been interested in neuroscience since I was a high school freshman when I had the opportunity to dissect my first sheep brain.  I believe that experience and opportunities to explore new topics are critical to quality education, and even more importantly, towards inspiring the next generation of scientists who are in your classrooms now.  I created the Gray Matters independent study project curriculum in partial fulfillment of my degree, and during the process realized that a companion website would make the project more efficient for both teachers and students.
